The Nature of Work

What is Work
Syllogistically proves that a gift is not a reward. Illustrates the difference between efficient and instrumental means with a water hose. Shows that passivity versus activity in and of itself does not determine what is a work. Proves that everything we do is not considered a work. Revised 10/25/2009

 Work is Something We Do
Illustrates that faith is not a subset of work, so everything we do is not a work. Revised 10/25/2009

Work is Determined by Source
Shows that passivity versus activity in and of itself does not determine what is a work. Proves that everything we do is not considered a work. Illustrates that the three sources of our actions are: flesh, self, and Spirit. What is of ourselves is amorally neutral. Revised 10/25/2009

Doxological Versus Misthological Amorality
Argues form context of 1Cor 10:31 that some of our actions may be amoral. Not everything we do to the glory of God is a work. Illustrates basic differences between God’s permissive and moral will. Uses more complex illustrations to color code misthologically neutral actions amorally within doxological boundaries. Uses simple flow chart to categorize amorality. Has a verity of scriptural passages to substantiate this category of amorality.  Has discussion in terms of these colors to affirm that saving faith is not a work in any normal sense of the word. Revised 1/1/2010
